     Call for assistance:

There is a need for assistance on staining the trim woodwork for the new lodge room at the Ohio Eastern Star Gallagher Center.  There are several thousand feet of crown molding and trim being stained.  There is a dire need of helping hands to assist the brothers that have been there for 3 nights.  Work will begin at 5PM on Thursday afternoon (4/8) and at 8:30AM on Saturday morning (4/10).  Even a few hours of your time would be welcome.

November '09

Mount Zion Lodge had an active night at the annual meeting on November 5th.  Members and visitors enjoyed a fish-fry dinner; election of 4 new members to be initiated, and the election of officers for the upcoming year (The 200th anniversary year of Mt. Zion). There were 51 masons present including 4 visitors from outside our lodge.

Master Jacks presented WB Paul Phillips with a plaque recognizing him as "Mason of the Year" for Mt. Zion.  Bro. Neibarger was recognized with a "Certificate of Appreciation" for his leadership and participation in many lodge activities.

Newly elected officers for 2009-2010:

The installation of officers will be on Wednesday, November 18 at 7 PM.

The Ceremony of Initiation on the newly elected members will be on Friday November 13th at 7 PM and on Friday November 20th at 7 PM. Please attend, if you can, to show support to these new brothers.

The Annual Service Awards Night will be held on Sunday, November 22 at 2 PM. This will be an open lodge ceremony to honor 25 brothers who have achieved 25, 40, 50, 60, 65; and 70 years of service to masonry.

We still have 59 members who are delinquent in their dues for the new year. I also have added 23 additional names to the email list. I now have 133 members receiving email from the lodge.

Our next stated meeting will be on December 3 at 7:30 PM. Hope to see you there.

September '09

Mount Zion resumed activities at our regularly stated meeting September 3rd, after two months of darkness. The meeting opened in the MM degree and paused for a moment of silence for 4 deceased brothers - James Hoovler, Robert Peters, James Clindaniel, and Richie Bastin.  An application for affiliation was assigned an investigating committee.  The Bicentennial Committee reported progress on planned activities for our 200-year anniversary throughout 2010. Mark your calendars for January 8th, as an MM degree ritual will be conducted on our founding charter date. Also, on April 24th Mount Zion will hold a re-consecration of the lodge by the Grand Lodge of Ohio.

Brethren,

Following is an update from our stated meeting and of upcoming activities.

 At our stated meeting on April 2nd Bro. Dean Hudepohl was presented with his certificate for his Endowed Membership. He makes the 34th endowed member of Mt. Zion.  Bro. Richard Ogle gave back his MM exam in fine order. (Note: This is 7 days since he was raised.)  The master called the Lodge to recess and Bro. Ogle's wife and family surprised him when they presented him with his father's Masonic ring.

The minutes of the 5 meetings in March were read.  One new petition was read and assigned an investigating committee.  Also, the investigating committee reported favorably on Mathew Tripp for membership.  He was approved by ballot and Master Jacks set Wednesday, April 15th at 7 PM for his EA degree.

A new Bicentennial committee was appointed to prepare for our 200 anniversary year.  John Price, Doug Brenneman, Larry Bertiaux, Paul Phillips, Art Crim. John Zale.  The team will meet Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 PM.

February/March '09

There will be a Masonic Funeral service for Brother Robert Wendell Irvine on Saturday March 28 at 11 AM at the First Congregational Church on North Main St. (Across the street from the Living Center).

The family and friends viewing will be from 10 to 11 AM.

Brother Irvine was a Master Mason for 50 years, 8 months, 26 days.

The stated meeting of Mt. Zion held on Feb. 5th. was a busy one. Two brothers returned their exam work. Brother Gary Sweeney returned his MM exam and Brother Lichtenwalter returned his FC exam. Brother Lichtenwalter will be the inspection candidate , MM degree, for Thrall lodge on Tuesday, February 24.

Two new members (by affiliation) were approved for membership with Mt. Zion. We welcome Brother Edward Mack of Bridgeport Lodge #181 and Brother John Dangelo, Jr. of Salineville Lodge #348.

A moment of silence was observed for the passing of two brothers - Franklin Ulery and Eugene Jambowski.

Snowstorms delayed the initiation of Mr. Jay Dee Sheldon.  It is rescheduled for Wednesday, February 11 at 7 PM.

January '09

Our regular stated meeting on Thursday Jan. 8, 2009 was quite busy. Entered apprentice Doug Lichtenwalter gave back his EA exam in great form. Master Jacks set up Thursday Jan. 15th to do his Fellowcraft degree at 7 PM.  All brothers are welcome.

Greetings and welcome to the November update on happenings within Mt. Zion Lodge #9.

Upcoming activities for the lodge include:

  • Galen Neibarger asked me to pass on a request for volunteers for the highway cleanup on RT. 13 on Saturday October 4th at 10 AM. Need at least 8 workers for 1 1/2 hours. Please help on this community service project.
  • Master Leventry is scheduling "Past Masters Night" on Wed. Oct 15th.

    Greetings and welcome to the latest update on happenings within Mt. Zion Lodge #9.

    The Mt. Zion Lodge stated meeting held Thursday May 1st was quite busy. Besides the regular business of the lodge monthly meeting we had a first reading of proposed changes to the by-laws of the lodge. These will be held over to vote on at our next stated meeting on June 5th. Two brothers were examined for their previous degrees. Brother Jeffery Clayton gave back his EA exam and brother Levi Carter gave back his FC exam.

    Greetings and welcome to the latest update on happenings within Mt. Zion Lodge.  Our November 1st Stated Meeting was Mount Zion #9's Regular Annual Stated Meeting. The following officers were elected and/or appointed to serve the Lodge for the year 2008:

    The brothers enjoyed a fine meal prior to the meeting

    The installation of officers was performed at 7 PM on Saturday evening with honored guests and family members present

    On Sunday, November 4th at 2 PM, the Lodge held its Masonic Service Awards presentation.  The names of all those eligible to receive awards were read.
    Fellowship and light refreshments followed.

    Our new Master, James Leventry, plans to have the Wednesday evening following our regular stated meeting to be a time for LEARNING LECTURES / DEGREE WORK.  The object this year is to make us more proficient with the degree work. This night of learning is open to any brother who would like to learn or polish any of the lectures, charges or other portions of our rituals and ceremonies.
